My Workstation has lost its program. What happened?

There may be a power supply problem. Power fluxuations can affect the Workstation's EEPROM memory and disrupt either the firmware and/or program information stored there. Many times this is a transitory phenomenon; to resume normal operation, simply reload the program. If the problem persists, check for ungrounded equipment, unshielded cabling, or cables running in proximity to noise-generating components such as transformers, CRT screens, electric servos or motors, and so on.

Can I add more memory to my Workstation?

Yes, depending on your Workstation model number:

A 128K EEPROM module for the IWS-200 is Nematron part #MEM-E128-200. Installation instructions are included. Contact your distributor or customercare@nematron.com for pricing and availability.

Can I upload my program from my Workstation to my PC?

No, ADP software communication is one-way, from the PC to the Workstation.

Can I transfer my program from an old Workstation to a new one?

Yes, the EEPROM(s) are socketed and can be transferred from one Workstation to another with the programming intact. Take care not to damage the EEPROMs, either physically or with static discharge.

Why are some of my required PLC registers not being scanned?

There are bits that must be set in your PLC, which should not be referenced in your PLC program. These bits are called "scan control flags." Your Workstation will scan only a few registers if none of these bits are set. This feature improves update time by allowing the user to limit the number of registers scanned. Each scan control flag bit controls a range of registers. Refer to the Workstation User Guide appendix for your specific PLC settings.

I've lost communication with my PLC. How can I restore it?

Rebooting the Workstation, the PLC, or both will usually restart communication. If not, refer to Chapter 14 in the Workstation User Guide for information on testing your communication port(s).

I have modified the Workstation program and downloaded it, using the latest version of ADP software. Why won't it communicate with the PLC any more?

There are two known bugs associated with ADP version 2.71:

  1. If you are using a Square-D 400 PLC, copy the file PD0.PLC from ADP version 2.53 to version 2.71 and re-download.
  2. If you are using an Allen-Bradley SLC-500 and DH-485, you need file P50.PLC dated November 1995.

If you do not have these files, contact support@nematron.com.Why is my Workstation displaying a blank screen?

Your Command Number Register (CNR) may contain an invalid number. Refer to section 2.5.1 in the Workstation User Guide for information on how to use the CNR.

Alternately, your display or power supply could be defective. A new display is Nematron part #547A0005. A new power supply is Nematron part #118A0159. Contact your distributor or customercare@nematron.com for ordering information. Due to the technology involved and uncertainties in user expertise, Nematron recommends sending malfunctioning units to the authorized service center and does not offer the standard 90-day repair warranty to parts sold for repair by others.

One of my keys is sticking or not operating. What should I do?

The replacement keypad for the IWS-200 is Nematron part #100A1139. It includes the front bezel and gasket. Due to the technology involved and uncertainties in user expertise, Nematron recommends sending malfunctioning units to the authorized service center and does not offer the standard 90-day repair warranty to parts sold for repair by others.

Why does downloading to my Workstation cause a “flash memory failure”?

This error indicates the EEPROM failed to erase. It may be a hardware failure or the communications was interrupted during the download.

Communications can be interrupted if you are running ADP in a DOS shell within Windows. Subsequent download attempts try to load application to firmware memory and ADP errors out when trying to download the application files. The solution is to run ADP in DOS only and re-download the application.

If you still receive an error, the EEPROM itself may have failed. Contact support@nematron.com
